Accium BioSciences Finances Microdosing Operation,
Brings on Key Personnel
Accium offers AMS-based microdosing services that generate important early human data on pharmacokinetics and biodistribution of a candidate drug, help select the most promising lead product from a group of candidates and assess feasibility for further development of a drug candidate. "Pharmaceutical companies can now access Accium's in-house AMS facility and suite of bioanalytical services to perform extremely sensitive studies of lead compounds in animals and early human trials," said Ali Arjomand, Ph.D., President and Chief Operating Officer of Accium. The turnkey service enables cost-effective microdosing studies in the U.S. based on the recently released FDA draft guidance for exploratory IND studies. In addition Accium offers highly-sensitive bioanalytical services for assessing pharmacokinetics and biodistribution in animals and bioavailability and metabolite profiling in early human trials. Accium is also pleased to announce that Glenn Kawasaki, Ph.D. has joined the company as its Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Kawasaki brings 24 years of experience in start-up biotechnology companies. He has a Ph.D. in Genetics (1979), an M.B.A. (1986), and a J.D. (1995), each from the University of Washington. Dr. Kawasaki has been a founder of several biotech companies including ZymoGenetics, Aptein, Catch Incorporated, and Sound Pharmaceuticals. Ugo Zoppi, Ph.D. has also joined Accium's team as Director of AMS Laboratory. Dr. Zoppi brings 15 years of hands-on AMS development and experience to Accium, including operation and improvement of AMS instruments at ETH in Zurich, Switzerland, the University of Tokyo (Research Center for Nuclear Science and Technology) and the Australian Nuclear and Science Technology Organisation (ANSTO).
